Will Wyoming Be Next To Sanction Girls Wrestling?

Updated: Feb 1, 2022

One big passion of ours at Casper Wrestling Club is improving the state of girls wrestling in the state of Wyoming. Head Coach Chad Barker is the proud father of three daughters & Assistant Head Coach Robert Strader wrestled for Osceola High School in Florida. Osceola has a rich history in girls wrestling, sending multiple girls to the Olympic training center in recent years.

This season CWC has ten girl wrestlers on its roster & we hope to double that number going into 2023. Coach Ericka is also at the forefront of continuing CWC’s growth with girls wrestling. The girls will soon have their very own logo, apparel & singlets! It’ll give them an identity of their own & a part of the club they can take ownership of.

Unfortunately, it isn’t all good news. The state of Wyoming has yet to sanction girls wrestling. The state is currently four high schools short of committing to sanctioning girls wrestling. This has not discouraged the CWC coaching staff. The coaches have been in contact with Wrestle Like A Girl, WHSAA & statewide athletic directors in an effort to have girls wrestling sanctioned.

Collectively we just have to keep pushing & inevitably the change will come! If you’re new to our club or just stumbled onto our website and are looking for a club for your daughter to wrestle at…. Rest assured girls have someone fighting for them here at CWC!

Stay tuned!
